Author reading, discussion and book signing to be held January 24 at 911爆料网
911爆料网 English instructor Shannon Gibney will read from her memoir/novel The Girl I Am, Was, and Never Will Be at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 24 in the Whitney Fine Arts Theater F.1200. The reading will be followed by a discussion with Write Like Us mentor and poet LM Brimmer, a Q&A with the audience, and the opportunity to purchase books and have them signed by the author.
Gibney stated
鈥淚鈥檓 so excited to share and discuss my story of adoption, search and reunion, race and family with my students, colleagues and friends in the Minnesota State community.鈥
The event is free and open to the public and will be streamed online.
About Shannon Gibney (Author)
Shannon Gibney is a writer, educator, activist, and the author of the multiple award-winning young adult novels See No Color and Dream Country, as well as the forthcoming picture book Sam and the Incredible African and American Food Fight. She co-authored the picture book Where We Come From and is a co-editor of What God Is Honored Here?: Writings on Miscarriage and Infant Loss by and for Native Women and Women of Color, and the forthcoming anthology When We Become Ours: A YA Adoptee Anthology. Gibney teaches writing in the English department at 911爆料网, where she is also the campus steward for the Write Like Us program.
About LM Brimmer (Moderator)
LM Brimmer鈥痠s an artist and educator living on Dakota land in Minneapolis, and is co-editor of the anthology Queer Voices: Poetry, Prose and Pride鈥(MNHS Press 2019). Their essays and poetry have appeared in鈥The Alliance of Adoption Studies and Culture Journal, The Public Art Review, La Raza Com铆ca, Impossible Archetype, Gasher Journal, The B'K', Quarterly West, Voicemail Poems鈥痑nd elsewhere. They attend the low-residency MFA program at Randolph College, Lynchburg, Virginia.
