The Sustainability Committee in partnership with the American Indian Success Center, NSF STEM Grant Programs, and Student Life are coming together to host an Earth Day celebration: Minnesota in the Cosmos on Wednesday, April 22 in the T Plaza. The event will recognize and celebrate sustainability efforts across campus. 

“An important goal of this event is to build a sense of community on campus while honoring Earth Day by demonstrating how small actions and investments can collectively create a more sustainable planet,” said Wendy Naughton, faculty, Chemistry, who hopes participants recognize the impact they can make. “We are all interconnected and together, we can accomplish great things.”

Celebrate Earth Day and step inside the ’s mobile planetarium! 

• Shows will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (come early to ensure you don’t miss it)
• Shows run on the hour for 30-40 minutes
• Sign up in person, up to five minutes before the show right in the T Plaza

• 10 a.m: Living in Balance: Anishnaabe Star Knowledge
• 11 a.m: Zoom! From the Earth to the Edge of the Universe
• Noon: H2O out of this World
• 1 p.m: Minnesota for the Cosmos 
• 2 p.m: Living in Balance: Anishnaabe Star Knowledge
• 3 p.m: Zoom! From the Earth to the Edge of the Universe 

Sustainability on Campus Tabling Event: 

Stop by a tabling event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to learn about campus sustainability efforts and their impact. Student groups from 911������ will showcase their initiatives. Those who have not yet registered can reserve a spot by contacting the Sustainability Committee.

“When we come together, we can learn so much from each other,” said James Splett, building maintenance supervisor. “We all share responsibility as stewards of the Earth, and it’s vital that we protect and sustain it for future generations. I encourage students who are inspired by this event and our campuswide efforts to consider joining the Sustainability Committee.”

“The 2026 Earth Day celebration is an awesome cross-campus collaboration and I am happy to support it,” exclaimed Tara Martinez, director, Student Life. “With nearly 10 program components, there is literally something for everyone to learn and explore. I am also thrilled by the connection to our Anishnaabe community through the 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Living in Balance: Anishnaabe Star Knowledge show.”

"I am so glad to be a part of this partnership and look forward to seeing our campus community engage with the mobile planetarium,” said Aubrey Hendrixson, American Indian success coordinator. “It is wonderful to have Indigenous representation included in the programming, as it allows our Native students to see their heritage reflected and learn more about it through the story of the stars. This event offers a great opportunity for the entire campus to learn from diverse perspectives and deepen our collective connection to the Earth."
